The need

With the current technologies, many biomass derived fuels that are already available today cannot be utilized for energy production. For example, glycerin, a byproduct in different chemical processes such as biodiesel production, has a high potential for direct thermal use in the process chain but there currently is no suitable combustion system. The Fuel-Flex project will deliver combustion technologies that enable the use of existing and future gaseous and liquid fuels for an economically sensible energy production.

The solution

The Fuel-Flex project will deliver new components of novel combustion systems for biomass derived fuels. In order to do so, experimental and theoretical investigation of combustion characteristics for future biofuels will be carried out. The Fuel-Flex project enhances two different combustion concepts:

  • Flameless combustion for liquid fuels
  • Plasma assisted combustion
