CC Poland Plus

CC Poland Plus is one of six European Knowledge Nodes created by the Knowledge and Innovation Community InnoEnergy. Established in December 2009 it is also a Polish representative at the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) in Budapest. The coordinator node is the Polish University of Science and Technology in Cracow.

The university was founded in 1919 originally called Mining Academy. The rapid development of the Academy after World War II and in the 90’s created the current image of the university. Today, AGH is one of the oldest, biggest and best technical universities in Poland. The Academy educates over 35 000 students in 15 faculties, 29 fields and more than 160 fields of engineering. It is worth to add that AGH is located in Krakow, the former Polish capital, and now a major center of science, art, culture and higher education.

MISSION
The main theme of the Polish coordinator nood activity is located in the area of Clean Coal Technologies and New Paradigm for Carbon Management. More specifically  our interests are focused on:

1. Clean coal technologies:

  • to increase efficiency and reduce emissions of conventional power units
  • capture and storage of CO2
  • new technologies, gasification of coal and lignite

2. Nuclear Cogeneration – the use of heat in nuclear reactors:

  • Clean coal technologies - CO2 recycling, gasification
  • Industry

The main task will aim at  developing new methods of cleaner energy production from already existing sources, and the acquisition of new renewable energy sources.

Explore House Education Project

Project 1: The quality and efficient use of electrical power in intelligent power supply systems – a technological demonstrator (AGH University of Science and Technology)

The aim of this project is to create an open laboratory which could serve as a demonstrator of various technologies used in smart grids nowadays. The existing and continuously modernised power distribution network of AGH University will be used for the basic part of this laboratory. The “practical laboratory” created in this way will be used to carry out various research and educational projects.    AGH Main Heating Station

Project 2: Biomass in Energy Applications (AGH University of Science and Technology)

The aim of the project is to share online the installation of biomass combustion for Explore House purposes. As a result of this project, online users would be able to perform online  their own presentations on the biomass combustion process, the efficiency of heat production from biomass, the integration of different kinds of heat and power sources and the impact on the environment by biomass combustion. Virtual Laboratory on Faculty of Energy and Fuels

Project 3: Wind harvesting and energy storage supported by Active Magnetic Levitation Technology (AGH University of Science and Technology)

The aim of the project is to share online  the demo installation of the Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) and Kinetic Energy Storage FlyWheel (FW) - both equipped with Active Magnetic Levitation (AML) technology for Explore House purposes.

Project 4: Thermal processes in power generation, Silesian University of Technology

The Explore House application will consist of two components:

  • A virtual platform for the visualisation of thermal processes in power generation
  • A physical set of laboratory stands providing workspace for the demonstration of vital power plant components.

Project 5: Communication platform for the promotion of scientific and techological knowledge, exchange of ideas and multilateral cooperation in coal technologies, Jagiellonian University, Krakow

The proposed contribution of the Jagiellonian University supported by the University Technology Transfer Centre (CITTRU) concerns the establishment of a dedicated place and electronic platform for the promotion of scientific and technological knowledge, an exchange of ideas and multilateral cooperation between students, scientists and industrial partners. The main domains will relate to clean coal technologies, and the current application covers catalysis and the protection of the environment.
