CC Benelux

Co-location center Benelux coordinates the theme: ‘Energy efficient buildings and cities”.
Today 40% of the world’s energy is consumed in the built environment, 40% of the materials is used in the built environment, as a consequence 40% of the CO2 emissions is caused by the built environment. So energy efficient buildings and cities are a key to sustainable development. The ultimate goal of this theme is the creation of energy neutral cities with a minimum of CO2 emissions.
With the current technology the realization of energy positive buildings on domestic and office scale is at hand. Thermal storage technology will be optimized to make this happen.
Besides the technological challenges the culture of society has to change so it will adapt its lifestyle into an energy saving attitude enabling energy positive buildings in an energy neutral city. The development of smart and sustainable transport systems are an essential element in this development. Electricity will be the sustainable energy carrier in the future society. So the development of smart grids at distribution level is another essential element to realize the energy efficient city.
The co-location center Benelux coordinates this theme innovation projects, education programs and business creation.
